IEA: No power should doubt Afghans’ faith, honour, resolve

KABUL (Pajhwok): Marking the 46th anniversary of the former Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has stated that the event carries the message that no arrogant power in the world should underestimate the faith, honour and steadfast resolve of the Afghan people.

The IEA also called on Afghans to remain vigilant and prepared to protect the freedom and independence of their land.

The former Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in December 1979 and acknowledged its defeat in February 1989, when it withdrew its forces from the country.

In a statement issued on the occasion, the IEA said: “As a result of ten years of occupation and widespread atrocities, the Soviets inflicted damage on our country in every respect, forcing millions of Afghans to migrate and causing countless deaths and disabilities. Yet, praise be to Allah, our brave and devout people waged jihad with courage against them. Consequently, after ten years, the Soviet forces suffered a major defeat in Afghanistan, with the help of Allah Almighty, and our oppressed people were liberated from tyranny and occupation.”

The IEA added that this historic event demonstrates that no arrogant power should ever doubt the faith, honour and unwavering determination of Afghanistan’s Muslim and valiant people.

“It also proves that, no matter how oppressed or seemingly powerless our people may become, they have a clear history of following the command of Almighty Allah (jihad), liberating their homeland from occupation, and achieving victory. The liberation from the occupation of three major powers and their humiliating defeats over nearly a century confirm this enduring reality,” the statement continued.

The IEA condemned the Soviet invasion and urged the Afghan people to remain prepared to safeguard their land’s freedom and independence and to prevent anyone from pursuing malicious plots or ill intentions against Afghanistan’s Islamic system, beliefs, homeland, values and people.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that the IEA will continue, day and night, to serve and strive for the defence and protection of Afghanistan’s religious values, Islamic system, homeland, and Muslim population.
