KABUL (Pajhwok): Thailand and Cambodia have signed a ceasefire agreement to end weeks of intense fighting along their shared border, which has killed more than 100 people and displaced over half a million civilians in both countries, Al Jazeera reported.
“Both sides agree to an immediate ceasefire from the time of signature of this Joint Statement,” the Thai and Cambodian defence ministers said in a statement on Saturday.
They added that both sides had agreed to maintain current troop deployments without any further movement.
The ceasefire is scheduled to take effect at noon local time (05:00 GMT) and will apply to “all types of weapons” as well as attacks on civilians, civilian objects and infrastructure, and military objectives of either side, in all areas.
The agreement, signed by Thai Defence Minister Natthaphon Narkphanit and his Cambodian counterpart, Tea Seiha, brings to an end 20 days of fighting — the worst clashes between the two South-east Asian neighbours in years.
