FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): One person died and four others were injured after flash floods swept through parts of western Farah province last night, officials said on Tuesday.
Mawlawi Mohammad Israel Sayar, head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority, said floods in the districts of Gulistan, Farahrud, Bala Boluk, Khak-i-Safid and Bakuwa caused human and material losses.
He said one individual had so far died in Bakuwa district, while four others were seriously injured and shifted to health facilities for treatment.
The floods also inflicted heavy damage on houses and agricultural lands, he added.
Sayar assured of full preparedness to respond to disasters, saying food items, tents and blankets had been prepared for 1,500 families and their distribution would begin soon.
Meanwhile, Farah Governor Mullah Mohammad Hafiz Mujahid directed relevant departments to remain fully prepared for natural disasters and collect accurate data on losses.
Residents of Khak-i-Safid district explained they were in a worrying situation following the floods, adding that a number of houses had been damaged or completely destroyed. They urged officials and aid agencies for urgent assistance.
