MoIC representatives attend ISESCO academic meeting

KABUL (Pajhwok): Representatives of the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) have virtually attended an academic meeting organised by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) on the statues of the Islamic manuscripts, methods for their preservation and protection and ways to utilise this heritage in contemporary research.

The meeting, titled “Islamic manuscripts in Kazakhstan: Realities and aspirations,” was organised by ISESCO’s Centre for Calligraphy and Manuscripts at the organisation’s headquarters in Rabat, MoIC said.

A statement from the ministry said the meeting was attended by Qari Obaidullah Hanif, head of the National Archive and Mohammad Shafiq Ahmadzai, head of Foreign Relations and cultural attachés at MoIC.

The meeting was aimed to review the condition of Islamic manuscripts, approaches to their preservation and protection and ways to benefit from this heritage in modern research.

The source said the Director-General of ISESCO described manuscripts as a fundamental pillar of human intellectual history and stressed the need to update catalogues and strengthen scientific cooperation.

A number of Kazakh researchers also delivered presentations on the status, linguistic diversity and importance of Islamic manuscripts in the country.

At the end of the programme, a closed-door meeting of experts was held to explore avenues for future cooperation in the field of Islamic manuscripts.
