Snowfall closes all roads in Daikundi, some in Bamyan

NEILI (Pajhwok): Heavy snowfall has closed all connecting roads in central Daikundi province and several main routes in neighbouring Bamyan province, officials said on Tuesday.

Eng. Mohammad Amin Ibrahimi, an official at the Public Works Department, said around 60 centimetres of snow had fallen on Kotal Qunaq and Kotal Kumi in Kiti district, as well as Kotal Khadir, bringing traffic on these routes to a halt.

He added that all the blocked routes would be cleared by the Public Works Department in cooperation with contracted firms once the snowfall stopped and weather conditions improved.

Meanwhile, Bamyan governor’s spokesman Saboor Farzan Saighani said the Kabul–Bamyan highway had been closed at the Kotal Qunaq area due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions.

He added that Haji Gag route along the Bamyan–Kabul highway had also been closed.

According to him, the only route currently open was Kotal Shibar road.

Officials urged all travellers to refrain from travelling on these routes until further notice.
