Afghan nation sentenced to 15 years in US for plotting attack

KABUL (Pajhwok): An Afghan national, Abdullah Hajizada, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a United States court for planning an attack on the day of the 2024 US presidential election, media reports said on Monday.

In a statement posted on its official X account, The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said Hajizada, a lawful permanent resident holding a US green card, was arrested on October 7, 2024.

ICE stated that Hajizada had intended to acquire two firearms and 500 rounds of ammunition and was aware that the weapons were to be used in carrying out a violent attack on Election Day in 2024.

The agency noted that upon completion of his prison sentence, Hajizada will be deported to Afghanistan by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers.
