Washington no longer has right to criticise Moscow: Medvedev

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has described the United States’ actions against Venezuela, including the seizure of President Nicolás Maduro, as “aggression and a violation of international law.”

TASS quoted Medvedev as saying that Washington no longer has the formal right to criticise Moscow for any of its actions.

He condemned the US measures against Venezuela as unlawful and an act of aggression.

Regarding the United Nations, Medvedev said the global organisation lacked effective mechanisms to address situations such as what he described as US aggression against Venezuela.

The United States reportedly carried out attacks on Venezuela on Saturday, “capturing” President Maduro and his wife and flying them out of the country. In response, Venezuela’s Supreme Court has ordered Vice-President Delcy Rodríguez to serve as interim president in Maduro’s absence.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting today (Monday) to discuss the US actions against Venezuela.
