Heavy snowfall in Herat; People stranded on highways rescued

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces in western Herat province have rescued people who were stranded on several highways due to heavy snowfall.

In a statement, the Herat Police Headquarters said that all security forces, under the leadership of Sheikh Naqibullah Azizi, the police chief of Herat, carried out rescue operations on Wednesday for citizens trapped in snow amid severe cold weather on the Herat–Islam Qala, Herat–Torghundi, and Herat–Kandahar highways.

The rescues were conducted through the tireless efforts of officials and the traffic management department of the command.

The statement added that, with full coordination among security forces, emergency and essential services for the public along major transportation routes are continuing on a sustained basis to prevent any serious problems.

It also noted that the Herat police chief had instructed all officials, district commanders, heads of security precincts, and commanders and personnel of units and contingents to remain fully prepared in both the city and districts, stay alert, and respond promptly to any potential incidents caused by snowfall and cold weather.
