SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A 75-year-old feud between two families in northern Jawzjan province has been resolved through mediation of local officials, religious scholars and tribal elders, an official announced on Sunday.
Director of Borders and Tribal Affairs Mawlawi Ghulam Nabi Samim told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The long-standing enmity between the heirs of Wakil Abdul Jabbar Khan and Haji Aqa Mohammad over land ownership was settled peacefully.”
He said the reconciliation gathering was attended by the officials from Borders and Tribal Affairs Department, dispute resolution commission, religious scholars and tribal elders.
He explained the dispute was resolved by clearly defining the boundaries of land for both parties, with the full consent of each side.
Meanwhile, the heirs of both families voiced satisfaction over the settlement.
Several religious scholars and tribal elders highlighted the importance of such gatherings in resolving conflicts between families and called for more jirgas to be held nationwide.
According to the department, this was the 36th dispute resolved through mediation this year, compared with 110 similar cases last year.
