KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s Minister of Interior, Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, met with a delegation led by Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, to discuss advancing engagement between Afghanistan and the international community, as well as other key issues.
According to the Ministry of Interior, Minister Haqqani held talks with the visiting UN delegation, focusing on enhancing cooperation between Afghanistan and the international community, joint efforts to combat narcotics, strengthening economic stability, removing existing restrictions on the private sector, and improving the effectiveness of UN-led humanitarian assistance.
During the talks, Haqqani stated that serious and practical measures have been implemented against the cultivation, production, and trafficking of narcotics, yielding positive results.
The ministry added: “Discussions were also held on constructive engagement between the Islamic Emirate and the international community, emphasizing that expanding cooperation based on existing realities, mutual respect, and practical collaboration can further strengthen trust.”
The UN delegation praised improvements in the security situation and progress in counter-narcotics efforts, reaffirming its commitment to continued humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
The statement noted that the delegation stressed the importance of sustained engagement and confirmed that, under the third phase of the Doha process initiated by the UN, the working groups established under this framework will hold their next meeting in Kabul, hosted by Afghanistan.
