KABUL (Pajhwok): The Salang Highway, which links Kabul with the northern provinces, remains closed due to heavy snowfall, strong winds and adverse weather conditions, an official said on Sunday.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), wrote on X that clearing operations are ongoing along the key route.
He said the busy highway had been temporarily closed to all types of vehicles following recent heavy snowfalls, storms and poor visibility.
Haqshenas added that the Protection and Maintenance Department began snow-clearing operations along various sections of the highway two days ago, and work is continuing.
However, the depth of the snow, coupled with strong winds and adverse weather, has delayed its reopening.
He urged all citizens and drivers to refrain from travelling on the highway until further official notice from MoPW.
