HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Significant progress has been made on the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, with 91 kilometres of the route in western Herat province now prepared for pipeline installation.
The TAPI pipeline extends approximately 1,800 kilometres, linking Turkmenistan to India through Afghanistan and Pakistan. Of this total, 816 kilometres run through Afghanistan.
According to Mohammad Yousuf Syedi, spokesperson for the Herat governor, Governor Shaikh Mawlawi Islam Jar expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress during a meeting with Beganj Abdullayev, head of the TAPI project for Afghanistan, and the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Herat.
Syedi said the governor praised the joint efforts of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan in advancing the project, noting that sustained cooperation has made the initiative increasingly organised and structured, thereby strengthening prospects for its timely completion.
He added that the Afghan head of the TAPI project informed the meeting that 91 kilometres of the pipeline route inside Afghanistan have already been prepared for installation.
Several operational camps have also been established along the route to support ongoing activities.
Meanwhile, the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Herat welcomed the cooperation of the Islamic Emirate in facilitating and supporting the implementation of the TAPI project.
He stated that, under current plans, work on the project in Herat is expected to be completed by the end of the current Gregorian year.
