Over 3,800 carats of emeralds fetch over $900,000 in Panjsher

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Department of Mines and Petroleum in central Panjshir province has sold 3,835 carats of emeralds for over $900,000.

According to a statement from the provincial media office, under effective leadership and proper management, emerald mining in Panjshir has been conducted transparently, legally and free from any coercive interference for nearly four years.

The statement highlighted that the transparent and standardized extraction of Panjshir emeralds under direct government supervision has helped preserve natural resources while ensuring public benefits.

As part of the ongoing orderly sales process, the statement said, 3,835 carats of emeralds were sold to local traders today (Tuesday) through a transparent auction monitored by the Mining Oversight Committee, generating more than $900,000.

The provincial office added that maintaining this transparent approach plays a key role in increasing revenue, building public trust, and establishing Panjshir emeralds as a reputable product in both domestic and international markets.
