KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the occasion of the country’s National Day, has released around 108 Afghan prisoners from its prisons.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, some of the released Afghans have already returned home, while the repatriation of the remaining individuals will be completed in the near future following the completion of relevant legal procedures.
The ministry added that the release of the 108 Afghans was carried out under its special guidance and as a result of sustained efforts by the Embassy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) in the UAE.
The ministry expressed its appreciation to the UAE government and concerned institutions for their cooperation and humanitarian gesture, and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to pursue the cases of Afghan prisoners held abroad.
