KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has departed for Muscat, the capital of Oman, leading a delegation to hold nuclear negotiations with the United States.
Earlier this week, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on X that he had instructed Araghchi to engage in talks with the United States.
Reports indicate that the negotiations were initially planned to be held in Istanbul, Turkey. However, Iran requested that the new round of talks take place in Oman, emphasizing that discussions should focus solely on the nuclear issue.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, confirmed Araghchi’s departure on Friday in a post on X.
He stated: “The foreign minister, leading a diplomatic delegation, has departed for Muscat to conduct nuclear negotiations with the United States. This diplomatic engagement is being carried out with determination and aims to achieve a fair, mutually acceptable, and dignified understanding on the nuclear issue.”
Baghaei added: “We have a responsibility not to miss any opportunity to use diplomacy to safeguard the interests of the Iranian nation and to maintain peace and stability in the region.”
The spokesman also expressed gratitude to neighboring and regional countries that contributed to facilitating these negotiations.
