KABUL (Pajhwok): The power utility in western Badghis province says imported electricity from Turkmenistan, costing two million dollars, will be extended to 21 villages in Sang-i-Atash district within the next five months.
Maulvi Khairullah Khairkhah, head of the provincial Brishna Shirkat, said that once the project is completed, more than 7,000 families in Sang-i-Atash district will gain access to imported electricity.
He explained: “We have resumed work on the incomplete project to connect imported electricity from Turkmenistan to 21 villages of Sang-i-Atash district. God willing, the electricity will be connected and people will benefit from it. The project cost will be covered by the Ministry of Finance.”
Khairkhah added that the project is expected to be completed and put into operation within five months.
Residents of Sang-i-Atash district have welcomed the resumption of work and urged authorities to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe.
Shams-ul-Haq Omari, a resident of Chashma-i-Dozdak village—located along the project’s transmission line—said: “We are pleased that the work to connect electricity from Turkmenistan has begun, and we ask the government to take it seriously and rescue us from the lack of electricity.”
Another resident of the same village, Sabruddin, said the arrival of electricity would bring significant conveniences and help resolve many of the community’s longstanding problems.
