Araghchi travels to Geneva for 2nd round of Iran-US talks

Kabul (Pajhwok): Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, leading a diplomatic and technical delegation for the second round of nuclear negotiations with the United States.

The first round of talks between Iran and the United States was held on 6 February this year in Muscat, the capital of Oman.

Following the conclusion of those negotiations, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that both sides had outlined their respective positions and demands and agreed to consult with their governments regarding the next round of discussions.

According to Iran’s IRNA news agency, the second round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington is scheduled to take place on Tuesday this week, with Oman acting as mediator.

During his visit to Geneva, Araghchi is also expected to meet with the Swiss foreign minister, his Omani counterpart, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and several other international officials based in Switzerland.

The report added that addressing the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva is among Araghchi’s planned engagements.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing an informed source, that two separate sets of diplomatic negotiations concerning Iran and Ukraine are scheduled to be held on Tuesday in Geneva.

According to the report, a United States delegation, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will meet with officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
