KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson says relations with Afghanistan are progressing positively, with contacts and interactions between the two countries continuing at a good level.
Alireza Bikdeli, the acting head of Iran’s embassy in Kabul, said a few days ago that there is no obstacle to recognizing the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan.
He added that Iran is pursuing multilateral ties with Afghanistan and will announce a legal decision on recognition at an appropriate time to further strengthen those relations.
Meanwhile, according to IRNA news agency, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told a press conference on Monday that the issue of recognition has been under discussion for some time and is inherently a sovereign and political matter.
He said the ministry would inform the public once a final decision is made regarding recognition of the Islamic Emirate.
“Our relations with Afghanistan are based on mutual respect and shared interests,” he said, noting that the cultural, civilizational and religious ties between the two countries require no further emphasis.
Baghaei added that both sides share concerns, including border insecurity, drug trafficking and other common challenges, which require joint cooperation to address.
