KABUL (Pajhwok): The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that Japan has contributed $4 million to support vulnerable families in Afghanistan.
In a post on X, WFP Afghanistan welcomed the contribution from the people of Japan, stating that the funding would help vulnerable families across the country.
The agency said the funds would enable nearly 80,000 Afghans to receive life-saving food assistance over the next 12 months, while 30,000 mothers and children would benefit from essential nutritional support.
WFP stressed that the assistance would play a vital role in preventing the further spread of hunger in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan had earlier announced that from 22 November to 21 December last year, the Japanese government decided to allocate $19.5 million in assistance to Afghanistan for humanitarian aid and the provision of basic services.
According to the embassy, the assistance would be channelled through the United Nations, other international organisations and Japanese non-governmental organisations.
With this latest contribution, Japan’s total assistance to Afghanistan since August 2021 has exceeded $549 million.
