FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A project to rehabilitate and upgrade electricity network has been inaugurated at a cost of more than 51.5 million afghanis in Baharak district of northern Badakhshan province, an official announced on Tuesday
Funded by the provincial Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the project aimed to reduce power outages and improve supply, said Hikmatullah Akhundzada, provincial head of the power utility.
He said the project included upgrading the voltage system from 10 kilovolts to 20 kilovolts, replacing 3,000 analogue meters with smart meters, installation and activation of five small and large distribution transformers, construction of 3.8 kilometres of 20kV network, installation of 610 meter boxes and extension of 19.25 kilometres of 0.4kV network.
Atiqullah, a resident of Baharak district, welcomed the inauguration of the upgraded electricity network and called for improved power quality and regular distribution across the district.
Another resident, Samiullah, also welcomed the initiative and urged officials to launch further projects to ensure consistent electricity supply in different parts of the district.
Badakhshan, despite its abundant water resources, continues to face repeated power outages during the winter season.
