KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has approved a plan to establish a free trade zone linking Iran, Afghanistan and China, reports IRNA.
The news agency quoted Morteza Zakarian, Director-General of Economic and Financial Affairs of South Khorasan Province, as saying the plan was approved during a session of the provincial planning council.
He said the establishment of a joint international commercial and industrial free zone in South Khorasan, linking Afghanistan, Iran and China, would enhance export and import capacity, provide sustainable employment for border communities, facilitate technology transfer and strengthen the province’s economic and security infrastructure.
He added that both Afghanistan and China had expressed readiness to participate in the project and provide financial resources.
He noted that the three countries, in terms of land area, population, production capacity and economic standing in the region and the world, possess a unique set of complementary capabilities that could form the basis of a powerful international free trade zone.
