Hundreds of Afghan refugees arrested as Pakistan intensifies crackdown

KABUL (Pajhwok): Hundreds of Afghan refugees have been arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid an intensified crackdown on undocumented foreign migrants in Pakistan, media reports said on Monday.

According to Pakistani media, the detentions occurred on Sunday, coinciding with the launch of a large-scale campaign targeting illegal residents.

Police reported that more than 1,000 Afghan nationals were arrested in different parts of Peshawar following the operation.

Authorities said the campaign was launched to maintain law and order and prevent potential incidents, particularly given rising border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

A total of 1,044 undocumented Afghan migrants were arrested, with security tightened at the city’s entry and exit points.

Meanwhile, at least 90 civilians, including women and children, were martyred and around 100 others wounded in recent Pakistani airstrikes on parts of Afghanistan.

In retaliation, Afghan forces reportedly attacked Pakistani posts along the Durand Line. The exact casualty figures and details of these incidents have not been independently verified.
