KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations has designated 2026 as the “International Year of Women Farmers,” emphasising the decisive role of women in ensuring global food security and economic growth.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) announced that the UN has officially named 2026 the “International Year of Women Farmers.”
It said the designation aims to highlight the essential roles women play across agricultural and food systems— from production to trade— roles that are often overlooked.
The organisation added that the “International Year of Women Farmers 2026” will include efforts to raise public awareness, promote practical actions to reduce gender gaps, and improve the livelihoods of women farmers worldwide.
