GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents in southern Ghazni City held a public gathering to express condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Religious Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing him as an influential figure in the Islamic world.
On February 28, the United States and Israel jointly carried out attacks on several Iranian cities, during which Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with several other officials, was killed.
The gathering was held at the Hazrat Mohammad Mustafa Grand Mosque, near the Islamic Culture Cultural Center in Ghazni City.
Participants spoke about Khamenei’s political and religious life, saying he had played an important role in political developments in the region and in supporting Islamic values.
Religious scholar Mohammad Ibrahim Salehi told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We have gathered here today to mourn the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and to express our sympathy with the people of Iran.”
Another participant and tribal elder, Elyasi, said:
“Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was one of the influential figures of the Islamic world who spent much of his life defending Islamic values. His death is a matter of sorrow for Muslims.”
Political analyst Anwar Farhadi told Pajhwok:
“Such gatherings are organized to remember the lives and struggles of important figures. The death of influential personalities like Ayatollah Ali Khamenei can also affect the political atmosphere of the region.”
Other speakers also noted that his political and religious positions had influenced many developments in the region and that his personality had been an important part of international political discussions.
