Iran’s UN envoy: Over 1,300 civilians killed in US-Israel strikes

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, says more than 1,300 civilians, including women and children, have been killed and thousands of others wounded as a result of US-Israeli strikes on the country.

According to Mehr News Agency, Iravani said in a letter to the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations Secretary-General and other officials that the Islamic Republic of Iran “once again condemns these brutal, aggressive and illegal actions in the strongest possible terms.”

He added: “At least 1,332 innocent civilians, including women and children, have so far lost their lives as a result of these brutal attacks,” citing the latest report from the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

He noted that as the strikes continue, the number of casualties is rising.

Iravani said vital civilian infrastructure — including airports, schools, educational centres, residential areas, sports facilities and other public infrastructure — had been deliberately targeted, destroyed or severely damaged by the United States and Israel.

He called on all UN member states to explicitly condemn the attacks by the United States and Israel and take urgent collective measures to end the bloodshed and the war.

On February 28, the United States and Israel jointly carried out airstrikes on several Iranian cities, during which Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, along with several other officials, was killed, according to Iranian authorities.
