KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 344 prisoners, including women and men, have been released from prisons in six provinces on the occasion of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, the Afghanistan Prison Affairs (APA) announced on Sunday.
In a statement, APA said the prisoners were released pursuant to an order from the Supreme Court.
It added that the inmates were freed from prisons in Parwan, Paktika, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Panjsher and Laghman provinces.
The statement further noted that the prison terms of 495 other inmates had also been reduced.
The process is expected to begin in prisons across the country in the coming days, the statement concluded.
