KABUL (Pajhwok): United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz has highlighted the strategic importance of Bagram Airbase following claims that Iranian leaders may have moved towards areas near Afghanistan.
Saul Sadka, an American analyst, wrote in a post on X that the Iranian leadership appeared to have relocated to the distant city of Mashhad, far from US bases and aircraft carriers — and from Israel — without actually fleeing to Afghanistan.
Iran has not yet commented on the analyst’s claim.
Meanwhile, Waltz reposted Sadka’s remarks on X, writing: “If only we still had Bagram Airbase.”
Earlier, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said in an interview with Al Arabiya that the people of Afghanistan would not accept the presence of foreign forces in any part of their territory.
