KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran remains committed to regional peace but emphasised that the conflict can only end if Iran’s “legitimate rights” are recognised.
For more than a week, the United States and Israel have conducted joint strikes against Iran, which have been met with a strong response from Tehran.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian wrote: “Talking to leaders of Russia and Pakistan, I reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace in the region.”
He added: “The only way to end this war—ignited by the Zionist regime & US—is recognizing Iran’s legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm int’l guarantees against future aggression.”
Meanwhile, Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, said in an interview with PBS two days earlier that negotiations with the United States were no longer on Tehran’s agenda, citing what he described as a “very bitter experience” in past talks.
