Kabul (Pajhwok): Iran has rejected claims by U.S. President Trump regarding recent talks between Tehran and Washington, describing them as “baseless.”
Trump stated that the United States and Iran had engaged in discussions over the past two days aimed at fully and comprehensively resolving hostilities in the Middle East.
He described the talks as “very positive and constructive,” adding that he had instructed the Department of Defense to delay any military strikes on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure for five days.
However, Iran’s state broadcaster, citing informed sources within the country’s top leadership, dismissed Trump’s claims of talks with Tehran, calling them “baseless.”
According to these sources, the remarks were made in the context of Trump’s recent threats to target Iran’s electricity infrastructure.
A day earlier, Trump warned that if Iran did not fully and unconditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the United States would strike the country’s power facilities.
In response, Iran’s military announced that any attack on its energy infrastructure would be met with retaliatory strikes against all US energy assets in the region.
