KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 23 people have been killed after a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River in Bangladesh, media reports said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in Rajbari district on Wednesday, officials said, as rescue teams continued searching for survivors and those still missing.
Authorities have recovered 23 bodies so far, but fears remain that more passengers may be trapped.
“We have recovered 23 bodies so far. Some people may still be missing, while a few survived. As it is night, rescue operations have been partially paused, but a joint operation is ongoing,” police inspector Russel Mollah was quoted as saying by ANI.
The accident took place around 5pm near ferry terminal number three in Daulatdia. The bus, travelling from Rajbari to Dhaka, was on a ferry when it fell into the river, according to The Times of India.
Rescue teams, including fire service personnel and divers, launched an operation shortly after the incident.
