HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces have arrested 40 individuals in connection with drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the provinces of Herat, Ghazni, Khost and Farah, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Saturday.
In a statement posted on its X, the ministry said counter-narcotics police in Herat detained 24 individuals for involvement in the trafficking and sale of illegal drugs.
Authorities seized more than one kilogram of hashish, quantities of opium and methamphetamine, as well as 1,201 intoxicating tablets from the suspects. The detainees will be handed over to judicial authorities following the completion of preliminary investigations, the statement added.
The MoI also reported additional arrests by criminal investigation units in separate operations across the provinces.
In Herat, six individuals were arrested on theft charges. In Ghazni, police detained two individuals on charges of moral corruption and one for illegal possession of weapons. In Khost, one suspect was arrested for theft, while in Farah, four individuals were detained on similar charges.
The ministry said these operations are part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat organized crime and drug trafficking across the country.
