Flash floods cause casualties, damage in 13 provinces

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 17 people have died and 26 others injured over the past 24 hours due to floods, landslides and lightning strikes across 13 provinces, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Sunday.

Hafiz Mohammad Yousuf Hammad, spokesperson for the authority, said the casualties occurred in Parwan, Daykundi, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Herat, Farah, Ghor, Badghis, Samangan, Jowzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab and Laghman provinces.

He did not provide further details but added that in these provinces, 147 houses, 80 kilometers of roads, 582 jeribs of agricultural land and 31 water wells and irrigation networks were also damaged.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works said that some roads in Sar-i-Pul, Balkh, and Badghis provinces have been temporarily closed due to heavy rains and floods. Ministry teams have, however, quickly begun efforts to reopen them.
