PARAKH (Pajhwok): Preliminary surveys suggest the presence of significant gold deposits across a 30-kilometer stretch in Paryan district of central Panjshir province, officials said on Sunday.
Mohammad Qasim Amiri, Provincial Director of Mines and Petroleum, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the deposits are estimated to extend from Aab Tal to Marghzar in Paryan district.
A statement from the provincial office said the initial discovery was made by local residents, while early assessments now indicate the likely presence of gold deposits across the 30-kilometer area.
It added that more than 300 local workers had previously been engaged in unregulated and non-technical extraction, but such activities have now been banned.
Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim said that extraction must be carried out in a standard and legal manner, in phases and in coordination with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP).
