5-member IEA team to travel to China for talks with Pakistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): A five-member delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is scheduled to travel to China today (Wednesday) for talks with a Pakistani team.

A reliable source told Pajhwok that the talks would be held in Ürümqi under China’s mediation.

The source said the delegation comprises Foreign Ministry representative Mohibullah Wasiq, Interior Ministry envoy Abdul Hai Qanit, Defence Ministry representative Rohullah Omar and General Directorate of Intelligence representative Yahya Takal.

The delegation is expected to depart Kabul for China within the next two hours.

The development comes as Pakistan has been carrying out artillery and air strikes inside Afghanistan since 22 February. Afghan forces have also been conducting retaliatory attacks on Pakistani posts along the Durand Line since then.

At least 400 people were martyred and more than 250 others wounded in a Pakistani strike on a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul on 16 March.

Afghanistan and Pakistan announced a ceasefire during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, but Pakistan violated it several times.

Afghan and Pakistani sides have previously held talks in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but these yielded no results.
