Over 28,000 foreigners enter, exit Afghanistan last year: NSIA

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 28,000 foreign nationals entered and exited Afghanistan through it crossings and airports last year, the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) said on Wednesday.

According to the NSIA, 16,276 foreigners, including 728 women, entered Afghanistan, while 12,198 individuals, including 158 women, departed. Of those who entered, 16,090 came via land ports and 182 by air.

Among the arrivals, 2,369 visitors came for tourism, 115 for education, and the remaining 13,792 for work purposes.

The highest number of foreign arrivals was recorded at Nimroz with 10,450 individuals, followed by Herat ports and airport with 3,648, Aqina port in Faryab with 832, Torkham with 814, and others via Hairatan port and Balkh airport.

The NSIA, through its Civil Registration and Foreign Nationals Department, is responsible for recording vital events such as births, deaths, marriages and divorces, as well as tracking the movement of foreign nationals through official entry points and managing citizenship-related services.
