KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia and China have vetoed a Bahrain-drafted resolution at the United Nations Security Council aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a media report said on Wednesday.
Al Jazeera reported the resolution — which garnered 11 votes in favour, two against and two abstentions — was rejected just hours before the start of a planned two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
It said China and Russia voted against the resolution, while Pakistan and Colombia abstained.
The draft would have authorised countries to respond to any Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and to use “all necessary defensive means” to protect commercial shipping.
The resolution was proposed by Bahrain.
