KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Standards and Quality Authority (ASQA) says it has returned around 27 tonnes of substandard steel imported through Islam Qala port to the exporting country.
In a statement on X, the authority said that, in an effort to ensure the safety of domestic markets and protect consumer rights, it had rejected the low-quality structural steel for failing to meet national standards.
The materials were returned after thorough inspection and strict quality control.
The authority emphasized that the process of verifying and controlling the quality of construction materials at all ports across the country is ongoing in a transparent, organized and decisive manner, adding that no leniency will be shown toward the import of substandard or harmful goods.
It also urged traders and importers to strictly adhere to national standards and fulfill their responsibility in ensuring a safe and high-quality market.
