Guterres says Lebanon fighting endangers Iran–US truce, regional stability

KABUL (Pajhwok): The UN Secretary-General says that the continuation of fighting in Lebanon and Israeli attacks pose a serious threat to the ceasefire between Iran and the United States, as well as to efforts for lasting peace in the region.

According to reports, Israel has launched new strikes on several targets in Lebanon. This move has seriously endangered the Iran–US ceasefire, while Hezbollah has also announced that it has resumed its attacks.

In the largest wave of Israeli strikes, more than 250 people were killed, raising concerns over the collapse of the ceasefire agreement.

On the other hand, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said all parties must immediately halt hostilities, stressing that there is no military solution to the conflict.

He emphasized that international law, particularly humanitarian law, must be respected in all circumstances, and that civilians and civilian infrastructure must always be protected.

He also called on all sides to pursue diplomatic channels and remain committed to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in order to maintain stability and peace in the region.
