Trump says JD Vance to skip Islamabad talks over security concerns

KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump has said that Vice President JD Vance will not lead the US delegation for a new round of negotiations with Iran in Pakistan due to security concerns, a media report said on Monday.

“It’s only because of security,” Trump told ABC News when asked about the reason Vance is not making the trip. “JD’s great.”

Earlier, US envoy to the United Nations Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright had indicated that Vance would lead the negotiations in Islamabad starting Monday.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that tight security measures have been put in place in the Pakistani capital ahead of the talks.

On Sunday, Trump said a US delegation had been dispatched to Islamabad for discussions with Iran. However, Tehran has stated that it will not send a negotiating team as long as the naval blockade remains in place.
