KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is expected to return to Islamabad after visiting Oman, as part of continued consultations with Pakistani officials.
Araghchi, who arrived in Islamabad on Friday evening, left Pakistan after meetings with Pakistani officials and travelled to Oman on Saturday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry had earlier announced that Araghchi is also scheduled to visit Moscow after Oman.
Meanwhile, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported on Sunday that Araghchi will return to Islamabad and that conveying Iran’s positions and views on the framework of any agreement aimed at ending the war and establishing peace is among the main objectives of the visit.
The report added that several members of the Iranian delegation accompanying Araghchi in Pakistan returned to Tehran after Saturday’s consultations for further instructions regarding discussions on ending the war. They are expected to rejoin him in Islamabad on Sunday.
This comes after US President Donald Trump, following Araghchi’s departure from Islamabad for Oman, cancelled the planned visit of his representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan.
Trump reportedly said that the United States “holds all the cards” and that Iran can contact Washington for talks whenever it wishes, adding that US representatives would not be sent on long flights to sit in Pakistan without producing results.
