Hairatan–Mazar railway’s fifth section inaugurated

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund has inaugurated and reactivated the fifth section of the Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif railway.

According to a statement from his office, Mullah Baradar praised the Ministry of Public Works for its efforts to expand the country’s railway network during the inauguration ceremony.

He also thanked Uzbekistan for its cooperation.

Baradar said that economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have strengthened compared to the past, adding that a joint committee led by the governor of Balkh has been formed to further expand these ties.

According to the statement, the fifth section of the Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif railway is 70 kilometres long, includes 30 kilometres of branch lines, five stations, and has a loading capacity of 50 wagons.

It added that the activation of this section will significantly improve the transportation and export of commercial goods.
