KABUL (Pajhwok): One person has been killed and 36 others injured in an explosion at a dry dock repair facility in New York City, United States, a media report said on Saturday.
The blast occurred on Friday on Staten Island while firefighters were responding to a fire and attempting to rescue two people trapped inside the facility, Reuters reported.
It said the fire initially broke out in the basement of the facility, where two workers were trapped. Firefighters were conducting rescue and firefighting operations when the explosion suddenly occurred.
One person was killed and 36 others injured in the incident, the report added.
“This was a complex, fast-developing emergency situation,” New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani told reporters.
He said: “First responders did what they always do: they ran towards danger so others could escape to safety.”
City officials said an investigation into the cause of the fire and explosion will begin once the blaze is fully extinguished.
