KABUL (Pajhwok): Tulsi Gabbard will resign as the US director of national intelligence in the Donald Trump administration, according to media reports citing her resignation letter posted on her X account.

In her resignation letter, Gabbard told Trump she was “deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the last year and a half.”

She said her husband’s recent diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer was the reason for her resignation, Al Jazeera reported.

Trump also confirmed the resignation in a post on his Truth Social account, saying: “Unfortunately, after having done a great job, Tulsi Gabbard will be leaving the Administration on June 30.”

“Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her,” he added.

The president said that Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas would serve in the role in an acting capacity.

Gabbard served in the US Congress as a Democrat from 2013 to 2021 and launched a long-shot bid for president in 2020.
