KABUL (Pajhwok): Minister of Defence Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid says Afghanistan’s territory, airspace and borders have not been and will not pose a threat to Iran, a media report said on Thursday.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Iran’s Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Bagheri on the sidelines of the 14th International Meeting of High-Ranking Security Officials in Moscow, IRNA reported.

Mujahid said Afghanistan had demonstrated during the recent conflict that its territory, airspace and borders would not pose a threat to Iran.

He also called for the expansion of ties between Kabul and Tehran and for strengthening exchanges of delegations between the two neighbouring countries.

For his part, Ali Bagheri said the United States and the Israeli regime were common enemies of the region.

Bagheri said regional countries had the right to decide about their own security and destiny.

He expressed hope that through stronger consultations and joint cooperation, regional states would create conditions for independent decision-making free from interference by third countries.

Bagheri also stressed strengthening common religious and political grounds for cooperation and described Iran-Afghanistan economic and infrastructure cooperation as constructive for creating lasting regional security and stability.
