KABUL (Pajhwok): Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu says the deployment of US and NATO military infrastructure in Afghanistan or neighbouring countries is unacceptable, a media report said on Thursday.
Shoigu made the remarks at the third meeting of Central Asia-Russia Security Council secretaries on Wednesday, NAMPA TV reported.
He said in light of recent developments in Iran and the surrounding region, the military presence of the United States and NATO in Afghanistan and the region would only increase threats.
Earlier, Shoigu had also said the United States and its allies should take full responsibility for the reconstruction of Afghanistan after the war.
He stressed that expanding cooperation with Kabul and resuming the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) contact group on Afghanistan were essential for regional security and economic development.
Afghan Minister of Defence Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid met Sergei Shoigu on the sidelines of the Moscow International Security Conference.
