MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): At least 18 people were killed and 29 others injured when a vehicle carrying returning refugees overturned on the Kabul–Jalalabad highway in eastern Laghman province on Saturday morning.
According to the Laghman provincial Media and Public Relations Office, the accident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. near the Sorkhkano area.
Preliminary reports indicate that 18 people lost their lives and 29 others sustained injuries in the crash.
The victims include 10 children, five women, and three men, the statement said.
Officials from the traffic and migrants’ committees arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and launched rescue operations.
The injured were transported to healthcare facilities in neighboring Nangarhar province for medical treatment.
The cause of the accident has not yet been disclosed.
