KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims it shot down a US military MQ-1 drone after it allegedly entered Iranian territorial waters on Sunday, a media report said.
The drone attempted to carry out a “hostile operation” after entering Iran’s territorial waters, but was immediately detected and targeted by the corps’ advanced air-defence missile systems, Tasnim News Agency reported, quoting a statement from IRGC.
The statement said: “The IRGC air defence has warned that the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran are under full control and any violation will be met with a decisive response.”
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet commented on the claim.
The development comes days after a US official said American forces had shot down four Iranian attack drones and targeted a drone control centre in the city of Bandar Abbas, where preparations were allegedly underway to launch another drone.
Following that incident, the IRGC announced — without naming a specific country — that it had targeted a US airbase in response to what it described as an American attack.
