KABUL (Pajhwok): A quantity of weapons and ammunition has been discovered and seized in the Dand Patan district of southeastern Paktia province, police said on Thursday.
In a statement, the media office said security forces recovered 20 firearms of various types along with a quantity of ammunition.
The seized items included eight Kalashnikov rifles, eight magazines, 12 pistols, 20 Kalashnikov barrels, three M4 rifle barrels, and 3,000 pistol rounds.
It added that the weapons and ammunition were being smuggled from Pakistan into Afghanistan but were detected and confiscated during a security operation.
According to the statement, the smugglers managed to flee the area. However, security forces have continued efforts to locate and arrest those involved.
