GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A complete ban has been imposed on the sale and purchase of firecrackers in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Abu Khalid Sarhadi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the provincial governor.

He said all security forces had been instructed to prevent the sale and use of firecrackers in the provincial capital and districts and to detain violators.

Sarhadi urged residents to refrain from importing, buying, selling, or using firecrackers, warning that no complaints would be entertained once the decision came into force.

Meanwhile, several Ghazni residents welcomed the ban, saying it would help improve public order, reduce public fear and prevent injuries to children.

Fakhruddin, a resident of Ghazni city, said: “The ban on firecrackers is a positive step because many children and young people are injured in the name of celebrations, while people are often frightened by the noise.”

Another resident, Hassan, said: “If the decision is implemented seriously, it will improve order in the city. The important thing is that it should not remain only an announcement but must be enforced in practice.”

He called on authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban and take action against violators so that problems caused by firecrackers during celebrations and special occasions could be eliminated.

In recent years, the use of firecrackers at various events has caused fear among residents, injuries and other problems.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) also announced a ban on the import, production and use of firecrackers.
