KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan A (AfghanAbdalyan) produced a strong all-round performance to defeat India A by 4 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a rain-affected opening match of the Sri Lanka A Tri-Nation Series 2026.
India A, invited to bat first after Afghanistan A won the toss, posted a formidable total of 349/9 in their allotted overs.
Abdullah Ahmadzai led the Afghan bowling attack with an impressive five-wicket haul (5/68), while Farmanullah Safi supported with 3/85.
Rain interruptions disrupted India A’s innings, leading to a reduction of one over, and further weather delays reduced Afghanistan A’s revised target to 294 runs in 38 overs.
In response, Afghanistan A made a strong start, with the opening partnership contributing 63 runs. Captain Imran Mir anchored the chase with an unbeaten 75, while Baheer Shah added an unbeaten 51. The pair shared a crucial 108-run partnership, keeping Afghanistan ahead of the DLS par score throughout their innings.
Further rain brought the match to an early conclusion, with Afghanistan A declared winners by 4 runs under the DLS method. Imran Mir was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution (75 and 1/24*).
Afghanistan A will face Sri Lanka A in their next fixture on Saturday, June 13, at the same venue.
